“Dissonans” is a new chapter in a longer story and the second album in a planned trilogy, of which last year’s Spellemann-nominated “Resonans” marked the beginning.

The first thing one notices about “Dissonans” is that the cover is uncharacteristic for Seigmen. While previous albums have tended to be simple, symmetrical, and minimalist, “Dissonans” almost presents a Spartan punk aesthetic. And as the title suggests, not everything here is as expected — although Seigmen’s large and loyal fan base will still recognize the essence. Ten tracks range from majestic droning on homemade equipment, through high-tempo songs with drum riffs borrowed from a 35-year-old demo, to unfamiliar territory with the airy ballad “Så Nært”, which is also the third and final single before the album release.

“Dissonans” is a new album from a band that has, in a curious way, discovered a completely new energy, creativity, and playfulness many years after having once been Norway’s leading rock band.
